International Reading Association Award

When my editor David Saylor and I set out to create WHERE'S WALRUS?, we worried about the response from librarians and educators. Would a wordless book be welcomed into the classroom? The response has been an overwhelming 'yes'! This month, we proudly accepted the IRA's Primary Fiction Award at their annual conference in Chicago.

Connecticut Children's Book Fair

Stefanie, ChloĆ« and I drove up to the University of Connecticut to attend the Connecticut Children's Book Fair, November 12-13. Fair organizers Terri Goldich and Suzy Staubach hosted a wonderful dinner at the Nathan Hale Inn where Mo Willems, Matt Tavares, Wendell Minor, Tommie dePaola and I expressed our gratitude by drawing all over the plates, cups and silverware. Terri and Suzy confiscated the doodled dinnerware and donated it to the Dodd Center.
